TCN Empowers Nigerian Grid: New Transformers Boost Power Supply in Kogi and Delta States

23 Jan 2024

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully commissioned two new 60MVA power transformers, enhancing electricity supply in Kogi and Delta States. This development provides an additional 48 megawatts to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, reinforcing the Federal Government's initiative to boost electricity supply across the country.

In a parallel effort, TCN inaugurated another 60MVA power transformer at the 132/33kV Amukpe Transmission Substation in Delta State. This accomplishment aligns with the national strategy to enhance power infrastructure and address the growing demand for electricity. The newly commissioned transformers play a crucial role in expanding the capacity of these substations, ensuring a more robust and reliable power supply.

The Okenne Substation's capacity has now increased by 48MW, empowering the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to meet the rising energy needs of its customers. Similarly, the Amukpe Substation witnessed a capacity boost from 100MVA to 120MVA, providing the Benin Electricity Distribution Company with additional bulk power to serve its customers in Delta State.

As the nation celebrates these achievements in the power sector, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, issued a stern warning against the vandalism of TCN installations. During a visit to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Minister Adelabu emphasized the importance of collaboration to improve power supply and safeguard power installations. The discussions also focused on community involvement in protecting TCN installations to curb the menace of vandalism.
