Tata Power-DDL Secures Patent for Moisture-Reducing Transformer Device

24 Sep 2024
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power-DDL) has been awarded a 20-year patent for its new 'Self-Regenerating Transformer Breather,' a technology designed to enhance transformer longevity by preventing moisture ingress. This breakthrough device aims to reduce the frequency of Silica gel replacement, traditionally required 4-6 times before a biannual maintenance schedule.

The self-regenerating breather leverages waste heat from the transformer's top plate to reduce moisture in the air, which in turn minimizes the need for frequent Silica gel checks and replacements. This advancement is expected to streamline maintenance processes and lower associated costs.

Gajanan S Kale, CEO of Tata Power-DDL, highlighted that this patent exemplifies the company's commitment to technological innovation and robust power infrastructure. The new technology was developed and tested by Tata Power-DDL's engineering team since December 2015, with successful pilot installations completed in 2016-17.

This development is anticipated to improve the reliability of power supply systems, particularly in challenging weather conditions, reflecting Tata Power-DDL's ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and infrastructure resilience.
