In a significant move to bolster its power distribution network, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has announced the procurement of 2,500 new distribution transformers at a cost of $24.4 million (₹200 crore). This initiative aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply across the state.

The purchase, sanctioned by the Tamil Nadu government, will address the increasing demand for electricity and reduce the incidence of power outages. The new transformers are expected to be installed in critical areas that frequently experience load issues, thereby improving overall service quality for consumers.

B. P. G. Reddy, the Chairman of Tangedco, highlighted the importance of this investment, stating, "The acquisition of these transformers is crucial for maintaining a stable and uninterrupted power supply, especially in rural and suburban regions where demand is rapidly increasing."

The procurement process will be carried out in phases, ensuring minimal disruption to the existing power infrastructure. The first batch of transformers is expected to be operational within the next few months.
