SWEPCO plans to boost production of renewable energy by 2022

18 Jul 2019

Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) submitted plans to utility regulators in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas to add 810 megawatts (MW) of wind energy by 2022.

The proposal is part of the company's plan to significantly increase its use of renewable energy sources, reports Daily Energy Insider.

"Our long-range plan moves SWEPCO toward a cleaner energy future with more low-cost, renewable energy as part of our diverse energy mix," Malcolm Smoak, SWEPCO president and chief operating officer, said.

SWEPCO's strategy is to have more than one-third of its energy generated from wind and solar, increasing wind energy to 26 percent from 9 percent, while solar would grow to 10 percent.
