SolarEdge Technologies and Infineon Technologies have announced a collaboration to develop advanced Solid-State Transformer (SST) technology for AI and hyperscale data centers. The partnership aims to enable direct medium-voltage to 800–1500V DC conversion with over 99% efficiency, reducing both the size and carbon footprint of power infrastructure.

The joint effort will focus on modular 2–5 megawatt SST building blocks, combining Infineon’s silicon carbide (SiC) switching technology with SolarEdge’s power conversion and control expertise. The technology is designed to support highly efficient, DC-based data center architectures while enabling faster deployment and improved sustainability.

A Solid-State Transformer (SST) is an advanced power device that uses high-powered semiconductors, transformers, and control circuitry to efficiently convert and manage AC or DC electricity while enabling bidirectional flow, power quality improvement, and smart grid communication.

Shuki Nir, CEO of SolarEdge, noted, “The AI revolution is redefining power infrastructure. It is essential that the data center industry is equipped with solutions that deliver higher levels of efficiency and reliability. SolarEdge’s deep expertise in DC architecture uniquely positions us to lead this transformation. Collaborating with Infineon brings world-class semiconductor innovation to our efforts to build smarter, more efficient energy systems for the AI era.”

Andreas Urschitz, Chief Marketing Officer at Infineon, commented, “Collaborations like this are key to enabling the next generation of 800 Volt DC data-center power systems and further driving decarbonization. With high-performance SiC technology from Infineon, SolarEdge’s proven capabilities in power management and system optimization are enhanced, creating a strong foundation for the efficient, scalable, and reliable infrastructure demanded by AI-driven data centers.”

The partnership positions SolarEdge to expand into the data-center market, leveraging more than 15 years of experience in DC-coupled architectures. By combining advanced semiconductor solutions with intelligent power management, the companies aim to deliver cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solutions for next-generation AI facilities.
