Snowy Hydro Upgrades T2 Plant with New Transformers from Hyosung Heavy Industries
Snowy Hydro has confirmed the installation of seven new transformers at its T2 power station, in partnership with Hyosung Heavy Industries Australia & New Zealand. The units will replace the original transformers installed when the plant was first constructed in 1962.
The replacement is part of a broader effort to modernize Snowy Hydro's infrastructure, ensuring improved efficiency, power output, and long-term generation reliability. A rigorous selection process was undertaken to identify a supplier capable of addressing the unique engineering challenges at T2, including space constraints in underground vaults originally designed for older, lower-capacity equipment.
The new transformers are engineered to deliver more power within the same footprint, aligning with Snowy Hydro's strategy to future-proof its systems in line with renewable energy goals.
The company emphasized that this upgrade is key to maintaining reliable operations as Australia's energy landscape shifts toward more sustainable sources.
