SK Telecom and Schneider Electric Partner on Transformer Supply for Ulsan AI Data Center

1 Sep 2025
SK Telecom has signed a comprehensive procurement agreement with Schneider Electric to supply mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure -- including transformers -- for the upcoming AI Data Center (AIDC) in Ulsan, South Korea. The collaboration follows an MoU signed at MWC25 earlier this year and marks a significant advancement in AI-focused infrastructure development.

Under the agreement, Schneider Electric will provide five key MEP solution categories: switchgear, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), transformers, automated control systems, and more. These systems will support the foundational power needs of the SK AIDC in Ulsan, which aims to become a benchmark in next-generation AI data center design.

A major element of the partnership includes integrating Schneider Electric's ETAP (Electrical Transient Analyzer Program) -- a digital twin software -- into SK Telecom's AI-driven Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platform. This integration will enable real-time monitoring, operational efficiency, and intelligent power management, including transformer performance insights.

The companies will also collaborate on MEP reference designs, prefabricated solutions to shorten build times, and Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) models. A secondary MoU aims to extend this cooperation across SK Group affiliates, particularly by co-developing advanced UPS and Energy Storage Systems (ESS) using SK On's lithium-ion battery technology.

Ryu Young-sang, CEO of SK Telecom, emphasized the strategic value of the partnership in accelerating gigawatt-scale projects like the Ulsan AIDC, while Pankaj Sharma, EVP at Schneider Electric, highlighted the role of integrated power technologies in shaping the future of sustainable data centers.
