Siemens to supply sustainable electrification equipment for new Veltins brewery

15 Sep 2021

GREVENSTEIN, GERMANY -- C. & A. Veltins, one of Germany's largest breweries, has announced that they would like to become one of the most modern and sustainable breweries in Germany by their 200th anniversary in 2024.

As part of this endeavour, new Siemens switchgear technology will be installed at the company's headquarters in the town of Grevenstein, in the Sauerland region, where a new bottling plant will go into operation in 2022.

The fluorine gas-free medium-voltage switchgear will use the climate-neutral Clean Air insulation gas, which consists entirely of natural components of the ambient air and will be coupled with low-voltage technology, equipped with digital measurement and communication functions.

"This not only guarantees a reliable supply of energy for our new building and bottling plant, but also reduces our carbon footprint and protects the environment," said Peter Peschmann, technical director at C. & A. Veltins.

A new low-voltage switchgear with new air circuit breakers and a busbar trunking system are also scheduled to be installed in the new building at Veltins to replace conventional cabling. The new systems and components should have full communication capabilities and should be able to collect precise energy and condition data, making it possible to identify potential savings and potentially improve operational energy efficiency.
