Siemens Submits Winning Bid for Bahrain Power Project

3 Oct 2023

In a competitive race among global players, Germany's Siemens Energy has emerged as the front-runner by submitting the lowest bid for a crucial power project in Bahrain. The project in question involves the construction of a 400-kilowatt (kV) grid substation in the Jasra region of the island nation, known as the Transformer and Reactor Works. Siemens' bid stands at 292.45 million Bahraini dinars, equivalent to $760.37 million, according to reports from the Arabic-language daily Akhbar Al-Khaleej, citing official sources.

While Siemens has secured the lowest bid, the report does not specify the identities of the other bidders. However, officials in Bahrain previously revealed that Siemens faced competition from South Korean industrial giant Hyundai Electric & Energy Systems, as well as Japanese companies Hitachi Energy and Fuji Electric, earlier in 2023.

The project falls under the international limited tender category, as outlined by Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority. Its scope encompasses the design, manufacturing, supply, transportation, erection, testing, and commissioning of various components, including four units of 400/220/21kV, a 500MVA autotransformer, three units of 400kV, a 100MVAr feeder reactor, and four units of 21kV, 25MVAr transformer tertiary reactors.

Siemens' successful bid positions the company to play a pivotal role in enhancing Bahrain's power infrastructure, contributing to the nation's energy security and sustainability.
