Siemens retrofits power transformers for wind farm in the Netherlands

13 Jan 2021
FRIESLAND, THE NETHERLANDS - Siemens Transformers Linz has been commissioned to retrofit two power transformers at the Fryslân wind farm using their transformer digitalization technology.

Fryslân wind farm is a $588 million 380 MW near-shore wind project developed in the Frisian part of Ijsselmeer Lake near Breezanddijk, Netherlands.
The electricity generated by the Fryslân wind farm is transmitted through a 9.5 mile 110 kV export cable connecting the onshore substation at Breezanddijk, from where it is further transmitted via a 6 mile 110 kV double-circuit transmission line to Bolsward for connection to TenneT's Frisian high voltage grid.
This retrofitting project involved the digitalization of the two transformers in order to enable visualized data management, as well as carrying out calibrated simulations in regard to load, active load and aging predictions, a source from the company said.
The Fryslân wind farm is expected to generate 1,184 GWh of clean electricity a year, which will be enough to power approximately 340,000 Dutch households, over 20 years of its estimated life.
