AUSTRALIA, VICTORIA - Siemens has installed a trial digital twin operation system at an HVDC transformer converter station Loy Yang that belongs to the Basslink interconnector between Australia and Tasmania.

The pilot system at Loy Yang converter station was installed in mid-2018 on a transformer that had already been in operation for 10 years. According to Siemens, the results during the first months of operation have been showing good accuracy.

The pilot stage is still ongoing but the plan is to install the same system on all three transformers at the Loy Yang converter station in order to enable the most powerful operational capability of Basslink in the future.
