Siemens Energy to supply transformers for offshore wind farm in China

11 Mar 2021
CHINA -- Siemens Energy will install 22 distribution transformers at China's first commercial 66 kV offshore wind farm in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province.

The manufacturer will supply ester fluid-immersed transformers for the Yuhuan Offshore Wind Power Project Phase 1 located in the south-eastern part of China. The transformers will support the China Huadian Corporation (CHD) in optimizing the energy supply in the Yangtze River Delta region.
With an installed capacity of 300 MW, the wind farm is to supply environmentally friendly power to about 240,000 households per year.
The manufacturer's transformer solution was developed to enable larger power capacities for strong wind turbines, with a voltage class of up to 72.5 kV.
The compact and lightweight transformers for Phase 1 of the Yuhuan Offshore Wind Power Project will be installed in the tower base of the wind turbines. The transformers are filled with biodegradable synthetic ester insulating oil instead of conventional mineral oil.
The Yuhuan Offshore Wind Power Project is forecast to result in a reduction of 584,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021.
