Siemens Energy supplies HVDC technology for Germany-Belgium electricity link

10 Nov 2020
Transmission system operators Amprion (Germany) and Elia Group (Belgium) have commissioned Siemens Energy to provide HVDC technology for the Aachen Liège Electricity Grid Overlay (ALEGrO) interconnector, the first power bridge between Germany and Belgium.

Siemens Energy supplied two converter stations at each end of the line, one in Oberzier in Germany and the other in Lixhe in Belgium, connected by an underground DC cable, the manufacturer said in a press release.
The 56-mile long ALEGrO will be capable of carrying around 1,000 MW of power and will strengthen the security of supply in the German Aachen-Cologne region.
