Siemens Energy and Končar Inaugurate New Transformer Tanks Factory
Croatia has expanded its role in the global energy supply chain with the opening of a new KONČAR–Siemens Energy manufacturing facility in Sesvetski Kraljevec, near Zagreb.
The state-of-the-art plant, operated by KONČAR – Transformatorski kotlovi, will produce transformer tanks, a critical component in electricity transmission and distribution systems. Production is aimed at international markets, responding to rising global demand driven by the energy transition and shortages in transformer equipment.
The facility is part of a joint venture established in July 2024 between KONČAR (60%) and Siemens Energy (40%), building on more than three decades of cooperation between the two companies.
The official opening was attended by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Marko Primorac, Minister of Economy Ante Šušnjar, and senior representatives from both partner companies.
The new factory is expected to create up to 400 jobs and contribute to increased production capacity, supply chain resilience, and technological development. It also complements ongoing investments at KONČAR – Power Transformers (KPT) in Zagreb, where expansion projects aim to double production capacity by 2031.
Officials highlighted the investment as a significant step for Croatian manufacturing and its integration into global energy infrastructure.
