GERMANY - Siemens Smart Infrastructure and the German grid operator Netze BW are cooperating on a multi-year field test of an eco-designed distribution substation.
The new substation combines the F-gas-free 24 kV RMU with a 630 kVA distribution grid transformer which uses biodegradable, bio-ester fluid for insulation, the manufacturer said in a press release.
The substation should connect the medium-voltage distribution grid and the low-voltage local grid in the town of Kreuzthal in the Oberallgäu region and is now being tested under real-life conditions.
