Romania’s DEER Inaugurates Modern Transformer Station With Fund Support
Distributie Energie Electrica Romania (DEER) has inaugurated a new 110/20 kV transformer station in the Sibiu West industrial area, marking its first project financed through the Modernization Fund. The total investment is approximately 16 million USD (70 million lei), of which 10.3 million USD (45 million lei) are non-reimbursable funds.
The project aims to increase electricity distribution capacity in Sibiu West, providing users with a service that meets high standards of safety, reliability, and continuity. It will also support more efficient integration of renewable energy from existing and new power plants, optimize energy efficiency, and reduce the number and duration of power outages.
The new station facilitates connections for additional consumers and producers, strengthening the region’s energy infrastructure. Mihaela Suciu, General Director of DEER, stated that this project is an important step toward modernizing the energy system and contributing to the socio-economic development of Sibiu County.
This development aligns with Romania’s broader goals to modernize its electricity distribution network and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
