Ritz Opens Georgia Plant for High-voltage Transformer Production

A new manufacturing facility operated by Ritz Instrument Transformers has opened in Waynesboro, Georgia, adding more than 100 jobs and expanding U.S. production of high-voltage instrument transformers used in power grid applications.

The company, which builds equipment used to measure power flow and protect electrical systems, produces instrument transformers rated from 69 kV up to 765 kV — the highest transmission voltage level used in the United States.

Inside the facility, employees manufacture devices that provide measurement signals to meters and protective relays, enabling monitoring of power flow and rapid response during system faults.

“We make high voltage instrument transformers to measure the power flow on the grid as well as to protect other equipment,” said Scott Flowers, CEO of Ritz USA.

The new 140,000-square-foot plant marks the company’s return to Waynesboro, where it previously operated manufacturing activity starting in 1991 before the original site was closed years later. The facility is expected to scale beyond 150 employees within the next year, with potential for further expansion as demand grows.

Company representatives said the investment reflects increasing demand driven by grid expansion and data center development, both of which require additional transmission and substation infrastructure.

Ritz Instrument Transformers, headquartered in Germany with global manufacturing operations, supplies equipment used in utility grids, substations, and transmission systems across multiple regions.

The site is also positioned to support future growth in U.S. and international markets as utilities continue to expand and modernize high-voltage networks.
