Rețele Electrice Romania Completes Freidorf Transformer Substation

Rețele Electrice România, part of PPC Group, has completed the modernization of the 110/20 kV Freidorf transformer substation in Timișoara following a $5.6 million (26 million lei) investment. The substation serves around 9,000 customers and can support adjacent substations during unplanned outages, helping maintain supply for up to 60,000 customers.
The project, which began in April 2024, included replacing one 110/20 kV power transformer, modernizing the 20 kV switchgear, internal services and neutral treatment groups, and upgrading secondary circuits and electromechanical protection systems with digital protections.
General Director Mihai Pește noted, "This modernization project is part of our company's strategy to constantly modernize and digitalize the electricity distribution network." The company expects the upgrade to improve service quality and strengthen network resilience by reducing the duration of power interruptions.
