RESA Power PARC Delivers 224 MVA Transformer for Ohio GSU Project

9 Sep 2025
RESA Power's PARC location in Ohio has launched a major generator step-up (GSU) transformer project involving the sale of a 224 MVA unit.

The order, placed on stock transformer T-890, includes all rigging, testing, and field work required for installation. The GSU is rated at 224 MVA, 138,000 volts grounded Wye to 19,500 volts Ã-- 17,500 volts.

The project was initiated after the site's existing transformer developed persistent gassing issues. Despite multiple investigations by both company engineers and the original equipment manufacturer, the cause has not been resolved.

A brand-new transformer of this specification would typically cost between $3.5 million and $4.5 million, with an estimated lead time of up to five years. Instead, RESA Power - PARC is supplying an unused unit originally manufactured in 2000, allowing the customer to secure a replacement much faster and at significantly lower cost.

The project highlights the role of reallocated transformer assets in reducing downtime for power operators facing equipment failures and long manufacturing lead times.
