PSE&G Replaces Over 500 Transformers Following Extreme Weather Events

3 Jul 2025
Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) has restored power to more than 140,000 customers across New Jersey after a series of severe storms and a record-breaking heatwave. The utility reported that crews worked continuously for over a week to address widespread outages and infrastructure damage.

During the restoration efforts, PSE&G crews replaced over 500 transformers and responded to more than 8,000 appliance service calls, including issues related to air conditioning units. The utility deployed resources statewide, prioritizing critical facilities such as hospitals and emergency services.

PSE&G emphasized its preparedness and resilience, citing ongoing investments in infrastructure modernization and storm response training. The company noted that despite the extreme weather, its systems largely withstood the conditions, supporting its 2.4 million electric customers.

In one example of infrastructure upgrades, crews replaced an aging 25 kVA transformer serving eight homes with two 50 kVA transformers serving four homes each, accommodating increased energy demands from expanded household appliances and electric vehicles.

A company spokesperson highlighted the dedication and skill of restoration crews, stating that safety and customer service were top priorities throughout the response.

PSE&G continues to monitor conditions and encourages customers to stay informed through its website and customer service channels.
