Prysmian has won the "Quick & Simple Substation" innovation challenge organized by Dutch power utilities Alliander, Enexis, and Stedin. The initiative aimed to find scalable solutions to speed up the rollout of Medium Voltage (MV) transformer substations in the Netherlands amid growing electricity demand and an accelerating energy transition.

Selected from among 14 participants, Prysmian's winning entry featured a plug-and-play MV substation system using flexible cables and prefabricated plug connections. This approach significantly reduces installation time--from two days to one--while also addressing technician shortages and simplifying deployment.

The solution is designed to enhance grid efficiency, improve grid reliability, and support a more resilient infrastructure. It also serves as a potential global template, with relevance for utility providers facing similar challenges worldwide.

The project aligns with Prysmian's sustainability goals, including generating over 55% of revenues from green solutions and increasing new product vitality to 30% by 2028.

Key stakeholders from the Dutch grid sector praised the collaboration and innovation as essential to expanding capacity and modernizing infrastructure. With the Netherlands planning to install up to 50,000 new transformer substations, time-saving innovations like this are critical.
