Prolec GE Waukesha Breaks Ground on $140M Goldsboro Expansion
Prolec GE Waukesha Inc. has officially broken ground on a $140 million expansion at its Goldsboro facility, designed to nearly double its medium power transformer production from 220 to 420 units annually.
As announced in May 2025, the project would create approximately 330 manufacturing jobs over 2.5 years, generating an estimated $27 million in annual payroll. The 144,000-square-foot facility will include core cutting, coil winding, assembly, and testing operations, supporting production efficiency and quality control. Officials noted the expansion will meet growing demand for electricity infrastructure and supply power to an estimated 12 million households.
During the groundbreaking, Troy Kabrich, director of U.S. power transformer operations, stated that the project supports manufacturing in the U.S. and reinforces the reliability of the national power grid.
The expansion is supported through cooperation between North Carolina and Wayne County officials, local community partners, and company teams. Prolec GE Waukesha, founded in 1966, operates multiple transformer manufacturing facilities in North America and has focused on scaling production capacity to meet market demand.
