POWERGRID Approves $86 Million Investment in India for Cold Spare Transformers and Reactors
POWERGRID (Power Grid Corporation of India Limited) has approved a $86 million (₹705.3 crore) investment for the procurement of cold spare transformers and reactors to strengthen India’s power transmission network. The decision was made during the company’s Board of Directors meeting on March 19, 2026, following recommendations from the 77th meeting of the Northern Regional Power Committee (NRPC).
The project is expected to be completed within 30 months from the date of approval, according to a filing under SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements. The investment aims to ensure that critical backup equipment is readily available in case of failures, minimizing downtime and enhancing grid stability.
Cold spare transformers and reactors serve as essential backup components for the transmission system. Their availability allows POWERGRID to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply across regions and respond quickly to emergencies.
The official filing was signed by Satyaprakash Dash, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of POWERGRID. Headquartered in Gurugram, the company manages a significant portion of India’s national power transmission system and continues to invest in upgrading grid infrastructure to meet growing demand.
