Power Outages Across St. Vincent Following Transformer Failure

10 Oct 2024
Residents and businesses across mainland St. Vincent are facing power disruptions following a critical equipment failure at one of the island's main power plants. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC), the country's primary electricity provider, announced the malfunction of a station service transformer, causing widespread service interruptions.

St. Vincent, the largest island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, is located in the eastern Caribbean Sea and serves as the nation's political and economic center. With a population of over 100,000, the island relies heavily on consistent electricity supply to support its agriculture, tourism, and business sectors.

In a statement, VINLEC reported, "We are currently experiencing a system failure due to the loss of a station service transformer at one of our main power plants." The company explained that this equipment is essential for supporting the plant's operations, and its failure has impacted power delivery across St. Vincent.

Both residential and commercial areas have been affected, and VINLEC has yet to provide an exact timeline for restoring power. However, the company assured the public that their teams are working quickly to replace the damaged transformer. VINLEC acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outage and promised ongoing updates as the situation develops.
