Poland’s Koronea Expands Transformer Manufacturing with New Turkey Plant

7 Jul 2026
Poland’s Koronea Group, the owner of transformer and switchgear producer ZPUE SA, has opened a new transformer manufacturing facility in Turkey through its partnership with Atlas Trafo. The investment is designed to increase production capacity and support growing demand for power grid equipment, renewable energy infrastructure and energy security projects.

The facility, operated by Atlas Trafo, raises monthly production capacity to around 400 MVA, compared with 300 MVA before the expansion. The company described the additional output as comparable to the electricity demand required to supply a medium-sized city during peak periods.

Koronea acquired a majority stake in Atlas Trafo in March and committed to investing in the Turkish manufacturer’s production capabilities. “Koronea Group has delivered on its commitment to invest in a modern production facility,” CEO Michał Wypychewicz noted following the completion of the project.

Based in northern Izmir, Atlas Trafo manufactures oil-immersed transformers used by power grid operators, transformer substation manufacturers, industrial customers and renewable energy developers. The expanded facility is expected to strengthen supply capabilities for customers involved in grid expansion and electrification projects.

Koronea stated that “access to in-house manufacturing capabilities is becoming increasingly important” as investments in electricity networks and renewable energy continue to grow.

The new plant forms part of Koronea’s broader strategy to develop industrial assets and expand its presence in sectors connected with energy infrastructure.

Lightning bolts strike across a dark blue night sky.
