Enea Operator has announced a €107 million investment in upgrading Poland's power infrastructure through the installation of 129 high-power transformers. The initiative aims to improve grid reliability and support the integration of renewable energy sources.

The company has signed contracts with Fabryka Transformatorów w Żychlinie, Power Engineering Transformatory, and ZREW Transformatory for the production and installation of transformers ranging from 25 to 40MVA. These units will be deployed across high-voltage to medium-voltage (HV/MV) substations.

The project, expected to be completed by 2028, will allow for greater connection capacity for new customers and renewable energy producers. In 2024, Enea Operator plans to install 14 transformers, primarily in the Szczecin Branch area.

Commenting on the development, Bogumiła Strzelecka, Vice President of Network Infrastructure at Enea Operator, highlighted that transformers designated for replacement will either be decommissioned or repaired based on their condition.

Additionally, several dozen units will feature an area monitoring system (OMT) to assess dynamic load capacity (DOT). New diagnostic tools will provide real-time data on transformer health, including gas content in oil, oil parameters, bushing insulators, and on-load tap changers.

This modernization effort aligns with Poland's broader push for energy transition and smart grid enhancements.
