Philippines to invest $9.1b in nationwide transmission network upgrades

National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the country's sole transmission service provider, has launched a $9.1 billion investment program that will see development of numerous transmission projects over the next 10 years.



The projects within the program include the 500 kV substation projects in Taguig and Marilao and 230 kV substation projects in Pasay, Navotas and Antipolo) which will support the load growth of Metro Manila.

The investment will also support the development of the 230 kV Cebu-Bohol interconnection project in Bohol Island; the Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay interconnection project in Boracay Island; the Visayas Voltage improvement project in Visayas; and the 230 kV Mindanao backbone project to upgrade the transmission capacity in the region.

Other projects that will receive financing include the Mindanao substation upgrade to increase the substation capacity and the 138 kV Kabacan substation project to enhance power reliability in southwestern Mindanao.
