PGCIL starts up first leg of 6 GW HVDC transmission project in India

Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has commenced the first leg of the 1,097-mile 6 GW HVDC Raigarh-Pugalur transmission project.

PGCIL has commissioned the first pole of the 1,097-mile HVDC transmission system that runs from Raigarh in Chhattisgarh to Pugalur in Tamil Nadu. 
The transmission system will enable the flow of 1.5 GW of power from Western Region to Southern Region. 
The first leg of the HVDC system is expected to evacuate power generated by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Chhattisgarh.
