Peru preparing updated 2021-30 power transmission plan

Peru's government is scheduled to release a preliminary power transmission plan next March to update the current roadmap which runs through 2028, reports BN.


The update will cover the period 2021-30. In preparation for it, electricity distribution, generation and transmission companies have submitted their project proposals to be included in the plan to the grid operator COES.

Some of the proposed projects are:

  • 500 kV Huánuco-Tocache-Celendín-Trujillo system
  • 220 kV Chaglla-Nueva Huánuc line
  • 500/220 kV transformers at the La Planicie and Montalvo substations
  • 500/220 kV Nueva Independencia substation
  • Purchase of related land for future 500/220kV substations in Lima
  • A second 500/220 kV transformer at the Poroma substation to help integration of renewable energy Evaluation of a new 500 kV corridor that would pass through the load center of Lima

The proposed 2021-30 power transmission plan is due to be published next June, after the consultations are held on the preliminary plan.
