Peru plans to spend $1.3b on transmission projects in next 10 years

3 Jun 2020
Peru is planning to invest $1.3 billion in power transmission projects in this decade, according to the grid operator COES's preliminary 2021-30 transmission plan proposal.

Of the $1.3 billion, $690 million is for 10 projects starting in 2021-22 and coming online by 2026, while further $628 million will be spent on 11 projects that are not slated to start construction in the next two-year period, reports BN Americas.
Some of the projects that should start soon include the 500 kV Huánuco-Tocache-Celendín-Trujillo, Celendín-Piura, and San José-Yarabamba lines, the 220 kV Montalvo-Moquegua line, and the expansion of the 500/220kV Poroma substation (see map below).
The long-term projects include the 500 kV Colcabamba-Independencia line, the 220 kV Aguaytía-Pucallpa line and the expansion of the 500/220kV Yarabamba substation.
The proposed 500 kV transmission projects will also facilitate international electricity connections with Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Bolivia and in the very long term Brazil.
