PECO Announces Grid Upgrade Work in New Britain Area
PECO, part of Exelon Corporation, has announced planned electric distribution upgrades across multiple residential streets in New Britain Township and New Britain Borough.
The project will involve replacing existing underground transformers with new pad-mounted transformers, installing new underground electric cable, and upgrading associated distribution infrastructure. The works are scheduled to begin on 6 July 2026, with completion expected by 1 October 2026.
According to the utility, the programme is designed to enhance system reliability, reduce outage frequency, and improve restoration times during service interruptions. The upgrades are also intended to modernise the local grid and increase resilience against extreme weather events.
The works will take place along several residential roads, including Pheasant Run Road, Pueblo Road, Mohegan Court, Cayuga Circle, Oneida Lane, Seneca Drive, Lenape Drive, Cherokee Road, and surrounding streets.
During construction, crews will install new conduit and underground cable using specialised machinery. In some locations, temporary service interruptions may be required to safely complete the work. Affected areas will be restored to their original condition following installation.
Pad-mounted transformers will be installed on or near residential properties to replace existing underground equipment, with PECO stating that customers will be contacted directly where installations affect private land.
