Peab to Construct Hitachi Energy’s New Transformer Plant in Sweden

17 Jun 2025
Peab has been awarded a $87.5 million (SEK 831 million) contract by Hitachi Energy to build a new facility for the production of large power transformers and shunt reactors in Ludvika, Sweden. The new 20,400m² plant will include a factory, offices, and locker rooms, and will integrate with Hitachi Energy's existing operations.

Construction is set to begin this month, with completion expected by August 2027. This marks the second phase of the project, following an initial phase of collaboration between Peab and Hitachi Energy focused on optimizing the design, managing risks, and ensuring quality.

This development is described by Thomas Wennberg, Hitachi Energy's Power Transformers plant manager, as the company's "single largest investment in Sweden." The contract will be officially registered in Q2 2025.

Stefan Danielsson, Business Area Manager at Peab, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating it allows Peab to contribute with its expertise in sustainable community development.

Peab's latest win follows its April 2025 contract for a combined heat and power plant in Ã-rtofta, further cementing its role in the Nordic energy infrastructure sector.

We previously reported on this project's early planning stage in March.
