It is with great sadness that we inform that Patrick Ryan, IEEE PES Executive Director, and a member of our Transformer Technology community, has passed away.
When I read this announcement, my first thought was, "Not Pat, he is too filled with vitality and strength, this must be a mistake, another Pat Ryan?"
But sadly it is true and all of IEEE and the Transformer Technology community have lost a friend and champion. We wish his family and his family at IEEE well, as they cope with this loss. His is a legacy that will last for generations. It was a blessing and a joy to have known him. We have lost a giant.

Here we bring the announcement from IEEE PES:
It is with great sadness I have to report the passing of Patrick Ryan, IEEE PES Executive Director, on Tuesday, 8 September 2020.
Pat became the 3rd PES Executive Director in 2007 and was a driving force in transforming PES into the second-largest society within the IEEE. He had a relentless focus on the IEEE and PES Mission & Vision and a strong belief that there needed to be significant volunteer engagement to pursue anything new. Pat was recently selected as the 2020 recipient of the IEEE Eric Herz Outstanding Staff Member Award "for leadership in creating a successful model for IEEE and Society memberships by fostering member value and partnerships with volunteers."
A full announcement, complete with photos and tributes, has been placed on the IEEE PES website.
The PES Governing Board will be having discussions on an appropriate manner to recognize Pat for his tremendous service to the IEEE Power & Energy Society and the industry.
Frank Lambert, 2020 IEEE Power & Energy Society President
