Pakistan’s MEPCO Enhances Power Supply with Transformer Upgrades

23 Oct 2024

The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has completed the upgrade of 264 distribution transformers across Southern Punjab, Pakistan, investing around $526,000 (Rs. 148 million) to enhance grid reliability.

The upgrades, ranging from 200 kVA to 400 kVA transformers, are designed to address voltage fluctuations and reduce power outages in key districts. Bahawalpur received the most upgrades, with 78 transformers upgraded at a cost of $124,000 (Rs. 35 million). In Multan, 45 transformers were upgraded for $117,000 (Rs. 33 million), while D.G. Khan saw upgrades for 21 transformers costing $19,000 (Rs. 5.3 million). Other areas, including Vehari, Muzaffargarh, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, and Khanewal, also benefited from similar upgrades.

These transformer improvements are critical for ensuring stable electricity distribution to residential, industrial, and commercial users in the region. MEPCO's ongoing infrastructure modernization aims to cope with increasing power demand, improve efficiency, and minimize disruptions, which have been frequent in these areas.
