NYSEG Completes Transformer Upgrade in Dansville

21 Jul 2026
New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has completed the installation of a new power transformer at its Meyer Substation in Dansville, New York, increasing the facility’s capacity as part of a broader grid modernization project.

The newly installed transformer doubles the substation’s previous capacity and replaces aging equipment. The upgrade is part of the first phase of a multi-stage rebuild project aimed at improving grid reliability and supporting future electricity demand.

According to NYSEG, the initial phase is expected to improve service for approximately 6,740 customers in Dansville and nearby communities once completed. The project is funded through the company’s 2023 rate case approved by the New York State Public Service Commission.

Built in 1948, the Meyer Substation is a key part of NYSEG’s transmission and distribution network, supplying electricity to local customers and smaller substations.

Further upgrades are planned through 2029, including additional transformers and supporting equipment. The company said the investment is intended to improve reliability, strengthen grid resilience, and prepare the system for future demand.
