NYSEG Completes Milo Substation Rebuild in Yates County
New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has completed a rebuild of its Milo Substation on Second Milo Road in Yates County.
The project includes a new 14-megavolt-ampere transformer and approximately five miles of upgraded distribution lines. The improvements are expected to increase reliability, resiliency and capacity for about 850 customers, including Penn Yan Airport.
“Meeting today’s energy needs requires significant investments in our grid,” said Marc Geaumont, president of NYSEG. “One of our top priorities is to ensure reliable power for the communities we serve.”
Leslie Church, chair of the Yates County Legislature and Milo town supervisor, also welcomed the project, saying, “Reliable infrastructure is essential to the well-being of our residents and the success of local businesses, including critical facilities like the Penn Yan Airport.”
The original substation was built in the late 1950s. NYSEG said the project was funded through its Public Service Commission-approved 2023 rate case.
