Northern Transformer receives funding for clean tech upgrades

16 Jul 2019

VAUGHAN, ONTARIO - Deborah Schulte, Member of Parliament for King-Vaughan, announced FedDev Ontario will contribute CAD$3 million to help Northern Transformer Corporation (NTC) innovate the manufacturing process of power transformers by adopting new clean technologies that will result in a reduced environmental footprint.

The funding will allow NTC to retrofit its 105,000-square-foot facility in Vaughan with new equipment and to adopt first-in-Ontario 'vapour phase drying' technology in its manufacturing processes, the press release states.

This clean technology offers significant energy savings and the efficient removal of humidity, which will result in more efficient power transformers, noted the company.

Additionally, this project will enable NTC to reduce its processing time and increase production volume.

Through this project, NTC expects to create 32 new skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs in Vaughan, and expects to purchase over $140 million in materials over the next decade from local supply chain partners across southern Ontario.
