.D. MEPSO and KOSTT, the transmission system operators of North Macedonia and Kosovo, have signed a memorandum of cooperation to expand cross-border electricity infrastructure, with a key focus on a new 400/110 kV transformer station in Tetovo.

The transformer station is a central component of a broader strategic project aimed at strengthening regional electricity capacity. It will connect to a planned 400 kV interconnection line between Tetovo and Prizren, improving network stability and enabling larger cross-border electricity flows.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burim Latifi of AD MEPSO, the Tetovo transformer station will enhance system reliability and serve as a critical node for future grid development, including planned 400 kV lines from Tetovo to Ohrid and Skopje.

Shaban Neziri of KOSTT stated that the investment contributes to the long-term energy infrastructure goals of both countries and aligns with regional priorities identified in the ENTSO-E platform and the EU's 2050 energy transition objectives.

Currently, North Macedonia and Kosovo share only one interconnection. The new infrastructure will increase exchange capacity and support integration of renewable energy sources (RES), identified as a strategic need in Southeast Europe.

The project is in the planning and technical phase, pending financial structuring and inter-institutional coordination.
