Nordic Countries Provide $207 Million for Ukraine’s Energy Sector
Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland provided $207 million (€180 million) in grants to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in July, according to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The new contributions bring the fund’s total grant financing to nearly $2.44 billion (€2.12 billion), provided by 39 international sponsors from 26 partner countries and three international organizations.
In July, contracts worth approximately $90.4 million (€78.4 million) were signed through the fund to purchase critical energy equipment. Ukrainian energy providers also received $33,9 million (€29.4 million) worth of equipment covered by previously signed contracts.
The procurement includes power transformers, high-voltage equipment, control and relay protection systems, backup generators, cable products and specialized vehicles, as well as materials and parts needed to repair and modernize energy infrastructure.
The latest funding follows a pledge by the United States and European allies of at least $432 million (€375 million) for the fund during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, Poland.
According to Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, the pledged resources were designated for critical grid equipment, rapid repair teams and physical protection around vulnerable electricity hubs.
