Niagara Power Transformer Plans $71 million Cheektowaga Expansion
Niagara Power Transformer is planning a $71 million expansion in Cheektowaga, New York, that would add 73 jobs and significantly increase the company’s local manufacturing footprint.
The project includes a new 96,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on Dale Road, followed by a potential 32,000-square-foot addition to the company’s existing 121,000-square-foot plant. The expansion would increase the company’s local footprint by more than 80%, while employment would rise from 146 to 219 workers.
The company considered expansion opportunities in Tennessee and North Carolina before opting to remain in Cheektowaga. The Erie County Industrial Development Agency (ECIDA) has proposed an incentive package that includes $1.7 million in sales-tax exemptions and a multi-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement.
"This is a great opportunity for the community," said Brenda McDuffie, ECIDA executive director. "Expansions like this are exactly the type of projects we should and we are seeking out."
Niagara Power Transformer, which has corporate roots dating back to the early 1900s, manufactures custom liquid-filled substation power transformers for utility, industrial and other applications. The company was acquired by Houston-based Quanta Services two years ago.
