New York State starts investigating sites for future offshore wind projects

27 Dec 2019

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is investing in the collection of geophysical and geotechnical data for the preliminary design and installation requirements for future offshore wind projects off New York's Atlantic coast.

NYSERDA will select one or more contractors to do the investigations and develop a model for describing geophysical and geotechnical conditions. NYSERDA will also select a contractor to support project management and host the data that is collected. The submission deadline is Jan. 21, 2020.

Strong knowledge of environmental conditions and factors, including seabed soil conditions, are essential for the installation of offshore projects, but only a limited amount of soil sampling and testing has been undertaken to date.
