The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), in partnership with their EPC contractor MBH Power, has energized new transformers at the Molai Transmission Substation in Borno State. This milestone is part of the Nigeria Electricity Transmission Project (NETAP), a World Bank-funded initiative aimed at enhancing Nigeria's electricity transmission infrastructure to meet increasing energy demands.

The project, executed under the NETAP TR3 Lot 1 package, included the installation and energization of:

• A 150MVA transformer, along with associated 330kV and 132kV bays and feeders, increasing the substation's 330kV capacity from 120MW to 270MW.
• Two 60MVA transformers, along with associated 132kV and 33kV bays and feeders, raising the 132kV capacity from 48MW to 168MW.

The energized transformers were commissioned on November 30 and December 1, 2024, and represent a critical upgrade in Nigeria's power infrastructure. These additions will enable the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) to supply bulk electricity to Borno State and surrounding areas, addressing long-standing issues of grid reliability and meeting growing demand.
