New TCN Substation Boosts Northeast Power Supply by 240MW
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a new 330/132/33kV transmission substation in Bauchi State, increasing electricity transmission capacity in Nigeria's Northeast by 240 megawatts.
The project includes two 150MVA power transformers and a 75MVA reactor, along with the construction of two transmission towers to enhance grid flexibility. The substation, commissioned on July 3, 2025, began development in February 2022 and was executed in partnership with the World Bank.
According to a statement from Ndidi Mbah, TCN's General Manager, Public Affairs, the new infrastructure will improve power supply to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company's franchise area and support economic development across the region.
The substation is already supplying electricity to the existing Bauchi 132/33kV facility and is expected to strengthen reliability and quality of service in Bauchi and surrounding states.
This commissioning marks another milestone in TCN's national grid expansion strategy aimed at enhancing transmission infrastructure across Nigeria.
