New 500 kV transmission line to strengthen Bangkok’s electricity grid
BANGKOK, THAILAND - The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) recently awarded a contract for the construction of a 49-mile transmission line to strengthen the electricity transmission system in Bangkok area.
The contractors have already completed the first 25 miles of the 500 kV transmission project, which will also enhance security of the transmission system in Thailand's capital, reports T&D World.
The resources and expertise to execute a 500 kV transmission line are limited within Thailand. This project provided opportunities to small Thai subcontractors to work on a 500 kV project under the guidance of the main contractor, which should help increase resources and manpower skills in Thailand for execution of 500 kV projects in the future.
