Netel to Construct Substation for E.ON in Southern Sweden

30 Jun 2026
Netel has signed an agreement with E.ON Energidistribution to construct a new substation in Borgeby, in Lomma municipality north of Malmö, Sweden. The contract value is just over $4.1 million (SEK 40 million, with completion planned for summer 2028.

The project involves building a new grid substation that will support electricity distribution in the region. As electricity demand increases across southern Sweden, grid operators continue adding and upgrading infrastructure to handle higher loads and accommodate new connections.

Substations like the one planned in Borgeby act as key points in the power network, stepping voltage up or down and enabling electricity to move safely between transmission and local distribution systems. The project sits within E.ON’s wider network development activities in Sweden.

Netel will carry out the construction under its existing scope of work in energy infrastructure. The company works across design, construction, and maintenance of facilities in the power and telecom sectors.

Jeanette Reuterskiöld, President and CEO of Netel, commented on the agreement: “We are proud to once again have E.ON’s trust in building a new substation.” She added: “Together with E.ON, we are contributing to electrification and society’s future energy needs.”

Construction is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2028, reflecting the multi-year timeline typical for substation development, from planning and permitting through to execution and commissioning.
