Nebraska Rail Park Set for $1.67 Million Substation Transformer
Dawson Public Power District (PPD) has directed the purchase of a 15/20/25 MVA WEG substation transformer for the Hershey Rail Park/Nebraska International Port of the Plains site in Nebraska.
The transformer is bid at $1,670,200, pending approval by the North Platte Area Chamber & Development board, which manages the grant funds.
The decision followed Dawson PPD’s September 2 board meeting with Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD)directors Kirk Olson, Rob Hinrichs, Derek Rusher and Sue Fuchtman. Discussions covered rates, reliability and power supply.
NPPD said additional generation resources are being built to maintain reliability and increase capacity for existing customers and new businesses. The units are expected to serve Nebraska for 30 years or more.
Dawson PPD reported a $5.7 million July wholesale power bill, reflecting hot, dry weather and increased irrigation demand. Capital spending was four percent below budget through July.
The transformer will support electrical capacity for development at the rail park site.
