National Grid looking to build new substation in Delmar, New York

25 May 2020

BETHLEHEM, NEW YORK - National Grid is once again seeking approval with the town of Bethlehem to build a new $15 million substation on the land the utility owns near Bethlehem's elementary school and Central High School.

National Grid says it needs to build the new substation on Van Dyke Road so it can retire the two existing substations near the Four Corners and at Elm Avenue Park, that are inadequate, reports Chron.

National Grid spokesman Patrick Stella said the project is being presented again to the town because the utility has been using other substations in the meantime to carry the electric load from the grid, although doing so is not a long-term solution.
