Nampower’s 175-tonne transformer makes its way to Gerus substation

17 Jul 2019

One of NamPower's four transformers that were commissioned for the Zambezi Link Interconnector in 2010 is making its way to Gerus substation near Otjiwarongo in Namibia after it has undergone repairs in South Africa.

The 315 MVA, 400 kV transformer was transported to Eskom-Rotek Industries (ERI) in September 2018, reports Namibia Economist.

Now the 175-tonne transformer is being transported back to its substation accompanied by police and private vehicle escorts. The cargo departed from Buitepos border post on Monday 15 July, and passed through Windhoek, Namibia's capital, on Tuesday 16 July.
