MR replaces old OLTCs by new technology units at a Mexican cement plant

27 Jul 2020
MEXICO - Reinhausen Mexico (RMX) has successfuly replaced the on-load tap changers (OLTCs) on two old transformers at a Mexican cement company's plant in Lagunas Oaxaca with new technology units.

The two transformers, as well as the OLTCs, date back to 1970 and they were produced by GE, but the original manufacturer no longer produces OLTCs nor is the service or spare parts for such OLTCs available on the market today.
The defective OLTCs were replaced with VACUTAP RMV-II reactor OLTC, which uses the same transition impedance as the old OLTCs, and the tank of the new OLTC could be welded in the same position as the old one.
In addition to the tap changer, the delivery also included a new motor drive and a voltage regulator, as well as accessories from Messko, such as pressure relief device, oil level indicator and maintenance-free dehydrating breather.
The service work and installation of new equipment took 12 days.
