MPPTCL Strengthens Power Supply for Bhopal Metro with New Transformer
Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has commissioned and energized a 200 MVA power transformer at the 220 kV Govindpura Substation in Bhopal to support the Bhopal Metro rail project.
According to an official release, the transformer was installed following detailed technical planning, system studies, and substation layout optimization carried out by MPPTCL’s Planning and Design Department. The newly energized unit will provide stable and reliable electricity supply to the Subhash Nagar Metro Station, ensuring uninterrupted metro operations.
The installation posed significant technical challenges due to limited land availability at the centrally located Govindpura substation, the need to keep existing equipment operational, and strict safety requirements. Engineers reassessed and modified the substation layout to complete the work in compliance with all technical and safety standards.
Congratulating the project team, Madhya Pradesh Energy Minister Pradyumn Singh Tomar described the commissioning as an important step toward strengthening the power infrastructure for the Bhopal Metro.
MPPTCL Additional Chief Engineer Rajesh Shandilya stated that the transformer installation was completed as deposit work under the Bhopal Metro project.
The commissioning of the transformer is expected to enhance system reliability and support the growing power demand associated with urban rail infrastructure in Bhopal.
